Amplify Asian at Sundance 2024

Last week, Amplify Asian was back at Sundance Film Festival hosting our annual networking events. We’re proud to have co-hosted two incredible events with organizations that have made a huge impact on the AAPI and Texas film communities. We enlisted the help of James Beard nominated and Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ joint Blood Bros BBQ to cater both events with their Texas BBQ with an Asian twist, a considerable experience shift from our 1,000 Mila Soup Dumping Night for Sundance 2023.

Special thanks go to Orchid Events for coordinating the events and Kevin Chin for the event photography. We couldn’t have organized these great events without the support of our house sponsors OCA – Greater Houston and Iron Light Labs.

APFE & HAAPIFest ASIAN TEXAN BBQ NIGHT

Happy 20th to both APFE and HAAPIFest!

We had the honor of hosting the kick off to the 20th Edition of the Asian Pacific Filmmakers Experience (APFE) and celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Houston Asian American & Pacific Islander Film Festival (HAAPIFest) at our vacation home. We had a vacation home full of AAPI filmmakers and allies partake in Asian Texan BBQ by Blood Bros BBQ. Apparently, the food was a bit spicy for some of our guests, but we promise it was just to keep them warm on these cold Sundance nights.

Special thanks to the Houston Film Commission and Center for Asian American Media for supporting our Asian Texan BBQ Night!

FILM IN TEXAS BRUNCH

Special thanks to all these Texans who helped make the Brunch happen!

Last year, the Texas film industry felt an immense weight lift of our shoulders when the 2023 Texas legislative session pulled the industry out of a 8-yr film incentive drought by passing a historic $200M fund for the TMIIIP. Amplify Asian quickly mobilized with the Texas Film Commission, Houston Film Commission, Austin Film Society, and Hill Country Studios to launch 2024 with a fun and informative Film in Texas Brunch that aimed to spread awareness of the newly funded incentives to an industry just waking up from a series of labor strikes. We were excited to tell these ambitious filmmakers of the opportunity to film their upcoming features and series work in Texas!
